Videography

How much does a videographer cost in Manchester?

By Alex ·

Asking what a videographer costs in Manchester is a bit like asking what a car costs. The honest answer is that there's a wide range, and the number on its own tells you very little.

Here's the range you'll realistically come across locally, and what actually sits behind those figures.

The typical range

A focused social content shoot — a few hours, one location, a batch of short form videos — usually sits somewhere between £300 and £600.

A half day tends to be £400 to £700, and a full day £700 to £1,200 for a single operator. Larger productions with a crew, talent, locations and scripting run well beyond that, and should be quoted on scope rather than by the day.

For reference, Social AM starts at £350 for a social content shoot, £450 for a half day and £750 for a full day.

What actually changes the price

Editing volume is usually the biggest hidden factor. Ten short form edits from one shoot day is far more work than one two-minute film, even though the filming time is identical.

Then there's planning. If someone arrives with a concept, a shot plan and an idea of where the content is going, the shoot is faster and the output is better. If they arrive expecting you to direct them, you're paying for a camera operator, not a videographer.

Why the cheapest quote often costs more

Cheap shoots tend to produce footage rather than content. It looks fine, it gets posted, nothing much happens, and six months later the business concludes that video doesn't work for them.

The useful question isn't the day rate. It's what you'll have at the end, how many pieces of content it becomes, and whether it's built for where you're actually going to publish or advertise it.
